Like shootin' fish in a barrel

Sometimes there's so much wrong with the Review-Journal -- writing just one daily blog post about its errors, omissions, slant, bias and lack of Journalism 101 basics --  is like shooting fish in a barrel.

So today, we finally get around to trying to figure out the RJ's lede story.

We did our best Googling and didn't find another non conservative paper in the country that led with the Associated Press story about guns that the RJ put atop the front page. Today's RJ layout -- with a great, but massive photo of CSN baseball standout Bryce Harper -- makes all eyes rise to the gun story.

The other places we could find this pressing gun story were in the Washington Times; in a blog on the Kansas City Star; and of course, in the lede editorial in today's RJ. http://www.lvrj.com/opinion/gun-rights-86150222.html

The Washington Post -- that tracker of all things inside the Beltway -- has the piece buried inside. Online, when you search WaPo, the gun story that hits is about Gilbert Arenas.

Just goes to show how skewed the RJ has become.

If it's good enough for the conservative talking points, good enough for the Washington Times, it's good enough for the RJ.

Oh, and in another show of just how wrong the placement was, the lede story in today's RJ can't even be found in the online version of the paper.

We know the Charlie Rangel story broke this morning, but we're bettin the RJ will still find it worthy of A1 tomorrow -- a full 20, stale hours later.

Getting around to all of the RJ's conservative and correctable antics takes awhile. So this morning's post also omitted a very funny foul-up by the RJ's county reporter, Scott Wyland.

We'll assume that Wyland attributed his quotes correctly and didn't really boff the story. We don't know because we have yet to watch the county meeting he covered.

But consider this ending:

"Commissioner Lawrence Weekly agreed that layoffs are inevitable. But he said UMC officials must treat workers and the commission with more respect before he supports their actions.

'I won't punch a green (go) button if I'm not comfortable with how it's done,' Weekly said.

Maybe Wyland is still stuck in NASCAR weekend hysteria. Maybe he's just a green reporter.

The green button, last we checked, meant YES.

If you're going to explain a politician's quote, it's wise to make sure the explanation is correct.
